| The ship, which near the end of WW II was heavily damaged off the coast of Japan, is here memorialized, along with the officers and crew, by a plank owner who solicited his fellow servicemen for their stories and photographs over a 20-year period. Orders, ship's log pages, memos and other navy documents are all here. The ship's origins, building, commissioning, assignments, and actions are described in detail.
The mood, thinking, experiences — both humorous and tragic — of the men on boarsdare vividly evoked and retold in their own words — with lots of photographs. The Pacific Theatre war, crystallized in the saga of just one ship, comes alive again on these pages.
