______________________________________________________________________________________ ARTSHIP's HISTORY: we began in Portsmouth, N.H. as Gallery RENAISSANCE.
2001: ARTSHIP added its ART BARN in 2001 for antique furniture, contemporary paintings, and other work-- hung its jewelry collection on a dressmaker's dummy swathed in black and wearing carnival feathers on her head-- and acquired the work of many RENAISSANCE artists and new faces. Our exhibits included:
2002: "LIGHT INTO DARKNESS: SCENES FROM AN ABANDONED ASYLUM", the art of and from the State Mental Hospital at Danvers, opened in the ARTSHIP gallery and on our site in 2002-- shortly after USA FILMS released its DVD of the film "Session 9", filmed at the hospital, featuring a fascinating interview with the three artists-- Andy Chulyk, Jeremy Barnard, and Michael Ramseur SATURDAY, SEPTEMEBER 21 our newest exhibit was added: SADLY, we lost a great friend in 2002... with the passing of "Doc Harvey" Asterita, one of this world's most gentle souls...we will always love and miss him. 2003:was also an interesting year and closed with 2 new artists being added to the gallery and/or site-- Derek Weiler and Elle Randall. 2004:In 2004 part of our presentation SCENES FROM AN ABANDONED ASYLUM returned "home" to Danvers as LIGHT IN THE ASYLUM at 10 North Street in Danvers, Mass. --and was open for the month of May with a reception, auction, and closing party organized by Artship. TRAGICALLY-- we lost a friend and major exhibitor in 2002... with the passing of Gail Brogan McKanna, a consumnate and creative artist and woman. Her work will remain exhibited on our site as long as her family permits it. 2005: new sections, pages and services We added another artist to our site: Bob Alexander, photographer, whose abstract and sensitive sea-and-coast images may now be seen, with more being added each month. We have published Mike Ramseur's 300-page art-history of Danvers Asylum, HAUNTED PALACE, now available on CD, download, AND in print ON THIS SITE-- this is a shocking, sad, and meticulously-detailed review of one of the nation's grandest architectural institutions, complete with original art, photos, maps, archival material and literature contributed by dozens of writers, scientists, historians and others. ORDER this historically important landmark book on our "dvd" page. We have also added a new line of services: BOOK DESIGN, EDITING & PUBLISHING-- a complete range of services for writers who want their book to be as artistically and sensitively presented as possible: on disk or in print. 2006: endings, beginnings, and continuations! -- ARTSHIP closed its physical gallery location in Harwich-- but CONTINUES ONLINE as an E-gallery. We will continue to focus on exhibiting and selling online, the most original ART we can find... acting as curator for exhibits of artists in other reputable galleries ...creatively designing, publishing, printing, and selling beautiful & interesting BOOKS ...and creating & servicing artistic and economical WEB SITES for artists, authors and others. We have added more artists to our pages please see the ARTISTS or SHEEDY page for the beautiful, evocative portraits of Northern New England by JOHN SHEEDY.... and see our NAUTICAL/MARINE section for the museum-quality, hand-built ship-models of SVEN O. JENSEN.
